We just finished the October 2019 PADI Instructor Development Course (PADI IDC) and as I am writing this my candidates are in the conference room of the Holiday Inn, in Cairns presenting their Knowledge Development presentation to the PADI Examiners. They have come out of the confined water an hour ago or so where they all passed their confined water skills with really good scores. See guys…. all that training has paid off!!!

Tomorrow they are off to Fitzroy Island where they will be presenting their Openwater presentations and performing the rescue skills.

Allow me to introduce the three amigos, they are Peter Thomson, Alex Lott and Matt Turnbull. I asked each of them to write a little paragraph of their experience of the IDC that they have just completed with me in Port Douglas at Quicksilver Dive.

My IDC with Kai was a truely great learning experience
Obviously Kai is a very experienced diver and instructor, etc. but as a course director he is a patient (well he had to be for me :) ) Knowledgable and an excellent teacher, mentor and coach
If you are considering doing your Padi IDC in the future I couldn’t recommend Kai highly enough, of course as an added bonus you get to experience some training dives on the GBR

Choosing where to do your IDC is a huge decision! Kai teaches his IDC at Quicksilver Dive Centre in Port Douglas; a cute holiday town in Queensland Australia. The Quicksilver Dive Centre is in the center of town; the facilities are brand new and the swimming pool is heated! The classroom is right next to the pool and we were able to get a good lunch for $3 a day which was very convenient. To practice our ocean skills, we also did two trips out to Agincourt Reef on the Quicksliver Dive Boat Posideon. The crew where very friendly and the boat was not crowded. Quicksilver also offer complementary bus transfers to and from Cairns, which was very convenient as I was staying in Cairns.

Kai and the team at Quicksilver dive went out of their way to accommodate me last minute onto the October IDC, for which I am extremely grateful for.

Kai is a very friendly and upbeat course director who makes you feel immediately comfortable and breaks down the seemingly impossible IE into easy chunks to understand and learn.

Every day we would develop our learning from the previous day and because we were a small group (only three of us) this made for more chances for us to practice and teach our skills. Kai is very approachable and always available to answer any questions (there where many!) both during and after the scheduled lesson times.

I highly recommend Kai and Quicksilver Dive for completing your IDC and getting you ready for the IE!

Doing my IDC with Kai has been a great experience. The IDC is a daunting task and I was certainly nervous before I arrived. However, that soon disappeared when I was made to feel welcome by Kai and the team at Quicksilver.

Personally, I loved the way Kai has split the days up and instead of death by PowerPoint, it was usually half classroom and half pool sessions. The classroom session were still really fun and we were all made to feel like we could ask any questions and pick his brain at any time (even stupid questions!). He explains things in a very simple way, even some of the harder information was delivered in a way that was comfortable to digest. Everyone learns in different ways and I feel that Kai adapts his style very naturally to aid this.

If your thinking about doing your IDC and you want to do it in a beautiful location, on one of the seven wonders of the world then I would 100 percent recommend doing your IDC with Kai. He will get you to where you need to be to put you in the best possible position to pass your IE.
